LOURDES GROTTO AND AN IMPROMPTU NOTE

Hit three birds in one stone when you visit Lourdes Grotto.

Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto

Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto was established in 1907 by the Spanish Jesuits to glorify God. It is perched in Mirador Hill where one has to climb 252 stairs to reach the top. Upon reaching the summit, one should offer a prayer before the shrine and light a candle.

Exhilaration is what I exactly felt the time I visit Lourdes Grotto. Setting my foot on site where nature and history collides in a spiritual context, I've surely hit two birds in one stone! I even got myself an impromptu note while working my way up the hill:

  • Keep the excitement surging
  • Smile to the people I will meet along the stairs
  • Remember to breathe
My note added up to the fun as it keeps me curious (though I know that I'm expecting to see the shrine at the summit), opens myself to possible friendship, and de-stress.

A bit crowded from the jump off to the summit, the sanctity of the area in the summit is highly respected and followed. As per history is concerned, Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto is not just a historical landmark and a tourist destination, but a religious sanctuary as well to pilgrims. The reason why silence is observed so as not to distract those who are praying. Backtracking a few steps from the altar and heading right side facing downstairs, there is  balcony for sightseeing. Little did I know that a is waiting for me in that very spot: A good city view. Now that made me hit three birds in one stone. :)

After doing stuffs, I took a descend on the other side of the hill - this time no 252 steps involved but just plain concrete, did a quick shop of poncho top at a negotiable price on one of the souvenir stalls, and hailed a taxi to my next stop for the day.
